LUXEMBOURG - Europol has published its 5th annual report on European Migrant Smuggling Centre.

Migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings (THB) are core activities of serious and organised crime in the EU and are set to remain threats to the EU for the near future, with victims exploited by criminal networks originating from all over the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted that global crises do not significantly disrupt migration flows. Criminal networks have continued to thrive, displaying a high degree of adaptability and as such, Europol’s operational support and services have been increasingly requested, despite the challenges in providing on-the-spot support. In its 5th annual report for the European Migrant Smuggling Centre, Europol provides an overview of recent activities and looks ahead at expected challenges.
