LONDON - Adding salt to your meals increases the risk of getting type 2 diabetes, a new study has suggested.
In the first study to show a link between salt and diabetes, researchers looked at data from 400,000 adults in the United Kingdom (UK) Biobank who were questioned about their salt intake and how often they seasoned their meals with salt at the table.
They found that compared to those who never or rarely used salt, people who added it to every meal had a 39% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
