GENEVA - 42 journalists have been killed while doing their jobs this year, the International Federation of Journalists’ annual tally has revealed.

Mexico topped the list for the fourth time in five years with 13 deaths.

Pakistan came in second place with five deaths, while Afghanistan, India, Iraq and Nigeria all recorded three killings.

A further 235 journalists are in prison due to their work, the report adds.

The annual World Press Freedom Index, compiled by the Reporters Without Borders campaign group, surveys the “state of the media in 180 countries and territories”.
