LONDON - Uefa has confirmed that the Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea will be played at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal. The showpiece fixture on 29 May had been scheduled to take place in Istanbul, but plans were scuppered when Turkey was added to the UK government’s travel red list.

Uefa had wanted to move the final to Wembley Stadium in London and was in talks with the UK government, Sky Sports reports. However, there was a “considerable sticking point over waiving quarantine rules for the 2,000 staff, sponsors, VIPs and foreign media”.

With Portugal on the UK’s green list for travel, Uefa said 6,000 fans from each English club will be able to buy tickets for the final.
