POSADAS - A newborn baby has been found abandoned in a plastic bag with a knife sticking out of her back. The baby girl, believed to be no more than two days old, was found by gym instructor Diego Sebastian Penayo, 31, on Costanera Oeste Avenue in Posadas, Argentina.

She was wrapped in a pink and blue blanket and had a rusted knife in her back, but was crying and displaying other vital signs of life. Mr Penayo then took her to a police station, and she was later admitted to a paediatric hospital.

Hospital workers have now named her Esperanza, which means Hope. David Halac, a spokesperson for Hospital Dr. Fernando Barreyro, told the newspaper Cronica that the baby is ‘currently stable’ and will survive her injuries. He noted that the stab wounds were mostly superficial and had not damaged any organs.(FA)
